- FASHION TECHNICAL DESIGN
Nestled in the heart of New York City, FIT benefits from its close proximity to the bustling style industry. The institute’s prime location allows students to immerse themselves in the fashion capital of the world, gaining inspiration from its vibrant streets and fashion-forward atmosphere. Costume design differs significantly from ready-to-wear fashion design or even haute couture fashion design. It’s all about creating garments that bring a character or storyline to life in an authentic and consistent way with a greater creative vision. In this course, students learn how to conduct fashion research, choose textiles that are both relevant and functional, and design according to costume parameters provided by a film or theater production team.
Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) – Museum at FIT
Involves writing, editing, graphic design, reporting on fashion trends, events, industry news, and everything else related to fashion communication. Involves the business side of fashion, including buying, marketing, and selling. Merchandisers analyze trends, manage inventory, and develop strategies to promote and sell fashion products. Our Fashion Technical Design Program bridges the gap between creativity and precision.

Our modern studios provide the perfect environment to ignite your passion for fashion design. Embedded within our programs is Workplace Ethics and Professionalism training designed to equip students with an understanding of the distinctive workplace culture and expectations in the fashion industry. Our classrooms offer an immersive design studio experience, mirroring the environment found in top-tier fashion companies. In the fashion industry, construction refers to taking your vision for a garment and turning it into a tangible, 3D form. This is primarily achieved via draping (the practice of pinning fabric to a torso mannequin). Many fashion schools include this skill in their curriculum, but not all dedicate an entire class to refining this particularly significant skill.
With 30 distinct areas of study to choose from both online & on campus in the heart of San Francisco. Supima has worked with Academy of Art University students to showcase their designs at their annual fashion show. In addition, Supima has donated fabric for the past two years for students to use in their senior collections. NYSD offers an intimate setting within a historic pre-war loft, formerly a bustling garment factory. Our well-equipped studios feature industrial sewing machines, cutting tables, and dress forms providing students with the ideal space to collaborate on projects, complete assignments, and refine their craft. Design beyond … It’s not just about fashion; designers need a wide range of skills to make their presence felt—merchandising, researching fabric, even directing content.
